what if you actually are crazy

A few more gems from Rosebud's fertile brain.

Rosebud was outside playing while Sparky worked in the yard.  She appeared to be talking to herself when suddenly she says Daddy.  I have an imaginary friend, you know.

You do?!  Does you friend have a name? 

Yes, Daddy.  It is Greensplotch.  

Greensplotch?  

Yes.  I just close my eyes really really tight and he appears.  Greensplotch.  I have another imaginary friend called Yellowsplotch.

We were talking the other morning about how we might handle situations where one's safety is compromised.  An assault, an attack, a mugging, harrassment.  So I happened to share that my first point of reference in a dangerous situation would be to act crazy.  Completely stark raving mad.

Rosebud's question was, "What if you actually are crazy?"

What does she mean by that? 

Mama...how did people remember what page they were on before bookmarks were invented?

I myself had never considered this  dilemma.  Books, no bookmarks. Technology once again surpassing itself. What?  I ponder.  A leaf?  A pressed flower?  A small piece off an old tunic?  Leather?  So many possibilities.

I suppose says Rosebud...they could just say write "page 24" on a piece of paper and keep it in their pocket.
